Eagle Avatar - LEGO Prototype

Our first prototype for the robotic base for our Avatar was constructed from LEGO Technics and Mindstorms components.  Our prototype is based on ideas from the FRC competitions, especially from observing Michael Norton and his gracious FRC 0061 team from Blackstone Valley Regional at the 2004 post-season competition, BattleCry @ WPI.

The Lego Avatar prototype also serves as a demonstration platform for the Eagle Overdrive clutch drive, to improve the reliability of straight movement.

The drive train has dual motors on each side, with the central gears on each sides coupled through clutch gears.  The powered axles are connected to the wheel axles by LEGO chain, similar to a common drive configuration used in the FIRST Robotics Competitions.
