Eagle Avatar - Robovation Prototype

Our second prototype was constructed from Robovation components, from Innovation First, the same kit that is used for training FRC teams, and operates under radio remote control.  Our prototype is based on ideas from the FRC competitions, especially from observing Michael Norton and his gracious FRC 0061 team from Blackstone Valley Regional at the 2004 post-season competition, BattleCry @ WPI.

The Innovation First Mini-Robot Controller is bundled with a kit of modified servomotors and various hardware to allow the construction of a robot that is software compatible (and to a large extent hardware compatible) with the full size FRC robots, but smaller.  Components are mostly steel, and often need to be cut to fit the robot design.  Radio control has be implemented using a standard 75 MHz Futaba 4-channel transmitter and receiver, although in an actual Avatar Robot the robotic base would be controller through the internet connection from the remote computer, with the local connection between the serial ports on the laptop and the controller.
